A burning from the gut, that “thing” which makes an individual who they are… that, is the purpose of this piece. It is a deeper exploration into depiction of the “essence”. In particular, Shandy's desire for this painting was to describe a horse that just “is who he is”… but his radiance beams despite his humble nature. The laid back character of the pose with his head down, legs sprawled while he lackadaisically meanders; plays against the excitement in bright color and streaked palette knife work. His natural exterior color (white with some dappled grey areas) is only hinted by the whites and light grey that appears to lift off and drift upward into the background, as to reveal his true colors.

This painting has served as an exploratory study of an artist's works which I sincerely admire. David Cheifetz techniques in creating "Paintings That Glow" are unique and inspiring. This was a first attempt at using some of his methods. I believe I'll be trying that again!
